Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) are among the most extensively studied stem cells due to their unique properties, including self-renewal and the ability to differentiate into a wide range of cell types. At Genevoyager, we have developed advanced techniques for isolating and preparing MSCs from various tissue sources. In addition, we offer viral vector tools for gene modification related to pet diseases, including lentivirus, adenovirus, and adeno-associated virus (AAV). Our team has successfully developed MSCs for conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, stomatitis, asthma, and arthritis, as well as disease-specific, gene-modified MSCs targeting pet ailments like arthritis, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, bone regeneration, cardiomyopathy, spinal cord injury, large-area skin defects, and aging.
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are adult stem cells that can be isolated from various sources, including bone marrow, adipose tissue, peripheral blood, muscle, dental pulp, periodontal ligament, articular cartilage, and periosteum, as well as extraembryonic tissues like umbilical cord blood, membranes, and amniotic fluid. These cells have the ability to differentiate into multiple cell types, such as osteoblasts, chondrocytes, muscle cells, and adipocytes. MSCs are capable of self-renewal and multilineage differentiation, making them valuable for increasing stem cell counts through transplantation while minimizing immune rejection. As a result, MSCs hold significant therapeutic potential for a wide range of animal diseases.
Currently, most clinical trials for dogs and cats use mesenchymal stem cells derived from bone marrow (BMSCs), adipose tissue (ADMSCs), and umbilical cord blood (UCBMSCs). In veterinary medicine, MSCs are primarily obtained from adipose tissue and bone marrow. Whilebone marrow is a rich source of MSCs, the procedure to harvest them is invasive and typically requires younger donors, making adipose tissue the preferred source.
In recent years, significant progress has been made in pet stem cell research, particularly in the field of stem cell therapy. This area has advanced from basic research to clinical application. The research and use of mesenchymal stem cells for pets are rapidly evolving, providing new therapeutic options and offering hope for improved pet healthcare.
